Dental crowns or “caps” are designed to protect the tooth underneath. A crown restores the tooth to its normal shape and size, strengthening and improving the appearance of a broken tooth.
Crowns are also used to support a large filling when there isn’t enough natural tooth structure remaining. They can be used to attach a bridge, to protect teeth from fracturing, to restore an already fractured tooth, or to cover badly shaped or discolored teeth.
